Student Accommodation in Leeds
In Leeds there are two main Universities, are Leeds Beckett and the University of Leeds. Like several other cities, it is a well-developed place and has good infrastructure. Similar to Sheffield, Nottingham, Manchester, and Birmingham.
If you want to read a more in-depth piece about Leeds, this might be better for you and you can read more about what we think about the Universities as well. The University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University.
Student Accommodation in Leeds
For this I will look at the PBSA side of the accommodation, this is the big blocks you will find most usually in the city centre. The good aspects about these are that they are centrally located, secure, come with staff and have lots of added extras with them – usually gyms, cinema rooms, etc. The only downside is that they can be a bit pricey if you just want a bed or studio.
Leeds has a lot of these providers, I will list some of the good ones below. As you can see they are all pretty much within a square mile (very rough estimation).
Because of this competition, it creates a better standard and yet keeps price to a relatively low cap, however there are still more students that studios and student accommodation so the demand outweighs the supply.
If you want to live in student accommodation like this in Leeds, make sure you check for these relevant aspects:
- Quality
- Service

With these places you can always go and view the facilities and rooms, even in some of the pandemic conditions, failing that always get a video tour. Get more detail here.
You will not be far away from the university if you live in one of these accommodations, especially if you are based in the city centre campus. They are all within walking distance and have good connections to transport, such as trams, trains and buses.

Student Housing For Leeds
Because of the big population for students, the student areas tend to be quite big and it also means that there are a lot of houses on offer, but some are not good enough for students.
The main areas that students live are (there a lot more areas where students do live, these are just the bigger and more well known areas):
- City Centre
- Harehills
- Headingley
- Hyde Park
- Kirkstall
- University Area
- Woodhouse
In these areas, you aren’t far away from the universities or city centre, you can go further out to places like Chapeltown, it still has good transport to university, however, these places are popular because they sit just outside the city centre offering lower rent and being able to get in to the city within 10 minutes.
The closest areas to university is the university area the LS2 9 areas because they are based around the university and the city centre housing. You can expect these rents to be higher than the other areas.
In the areas surrounding Leeds you are mostly going to get terraced houses and have an average of 3-4 beds.
If you are going to either Leeds Beckett or University of Leeds, then you can live in all the places, however, some students prefer to live on the side of their university for the ease of travel. If you aren’t based at a city centre campus then you can look in to the area that’s closest.
Some good student housing providers or student letting agents in Leeds are:
There are more letting agents and student housing providers out there for Leeds, however, these are the ones that I personally like and offer good quality houses and service.
The student housing market in Leeds usually starts around November or December and goes through to March with clearing coming after that. There is actually a surplus of student accommodation and housing in Leeds, however, the quality is not all the same. The standard is higher in Leeds than other places because of the competition between student accommodation and housing providers.
