Student Accommodation in Leicester

Written by Sam | January 10, 2021

Students that want to go to Leicester to study have picked a great city, having had a recent influx from the football club, Leicester has had a lot more attraction.

The city has good transport links, you can get to London easily, you are set firmly in the midlands and within a well-established city. Surrounding towns and areas aren’t as developed as Leicester. The city has two universities, the University of Leicester and De Montfort University.

There are 66,000 students in Leicestershire if you include Loughborough University. With a rough estimate of around 40,000 of those students being based in Leicester itself.

For the student accommodation market, I believe that there is no where near enough good student housing in the city and that for the student accommodation then there are plenty of options for students. I will cover more below.

If you want to read more about Leicester then this article will help you see what there is to do and if you want to read more detail on the universities such as, statistics, campuses, transport, and course information follow below:

  • Generally more secure
  • Accommodation manager
  • All inclusive bills
  • The added extras – Cinema, study room, breakfast, games room

One of the downsides can be the cost. Some of the student accommodations can be quite expensive.

Some providers which I think offer a good service and accommodation are:

If you want to make sure you find good student accommodation, make sure you follow these steps:

Student Housing in Leicester

There are quite a number of student letting agents and landlords in Leicester, however, the problem is the limited supply of good quality and reasonably priced student accommodation.

Most students I would say start looking for student housing around late November and start booking in December, this is a small minority though and quite a lot of students wait until the new year.

Take your time in choosing your landlord and letting agent.

The most poplar areas for students to live in Leicester are:

  • City Centre
  • Clarendon / Knighton
  • Stoneygate
  • Evington
  • Highfields

There are more areas to live in, however, these are where most students live.

Leicester has very reasonable rents, especially as it is based in the midlands and I would say the average rent, per week with bills included is £90-100 per week. This depends on where you live, quality and size of the house and rooms.

All these locations are close to the universities, close to bus and train stations and have good access to the city centre. This is mainly the reason why they are so popular.

Some good student letting agents and landlords in Leicester are:

There are more in Leicester and there will be some that have some great student housing. Spend the time researching, asking friends who they live with and then make sure you follow these steps to find a good student house.

  • Always view
  • Speak to the agent to judge their service
  • Search them online for any bad news or reviews
  • Read their tenancy before booking
