Student Accommodation in Bournemouth

Written by Sam | January 12, 2021

Bournemouth is an exciting place to live, it has a great coastal location in the south of England with lots of natural beauty around it and two universities, Bournemouth University and Arts University Bournemouth. Bournemouth has around 16,000 students which compared to other universities is a good-sized university. It has two campuses, one which is in the town centre and one in Talbot.

In terms of student accommodation in Bournemouth, there is quite a lot of operators for the 16,000 students (roughly), where as if you compare this to Gloucester, then there aren’t that many options. I’ll cover this in more detail later.

If you want to read more about what it is like to live in Bournemouth, our city (town) guide will help you understand what there is to do, the local transport situation and what to do as a student. Private Student Accommodation in Bournemouth

Bournemouth has a lot of student accommodation relative to it’s size for me, this gives you the student plenty of choice of where you live and what you get for your money.

It is all based pretty much around Bournemouth’s train station which makes transport easy for getting in and out of Bournemouth, it is in walking distance to Bournemouth University as well.

These types of student accommodation comes with a lot of added extras, such as:

  • Accommodation manager
  • Secure rooms
  • Study rooms, cinema, games rooms etc.
  • Bikes to use
  • Free breakfasts
  • All included bills and sometimes insurance

However, the one downside can be the price, they can be more expensive than a shared house.

All of these accommodations are around a 15 minute walk to Talbot campus, University of Bournemouth.

Student Housing in Bournemouth

Bournemouth has quite a good selection of student housing, I would say that most of it is pretty well designed and managed, more than most I believe, however, it doesn’t mean to say that there isn’t any bad student housing.

Best places to live as a student in Bournemouth are:

  • Winton
  • Town Centre
  • Boscombe

All these places are located around about 10 minutes walk away from Bournemouth University and 10 minutes between the Arts University Bournemouth apart from the town centre.

They all have good transport in and around them meaning you can walk to the train station or catch a bus within a few minute’s walk from your house.

Living in Bournemouth is relatively quite cheap, the average rent is in between £100-110 per week and that is with all bills included.

Some of the good student housing providers in Bournemouth are:

There aren’t many student dedicated landlords or letting agents in Bournemouth, there are some that do both, however, when searching online the difference isn’t always clear.

If you are looking for a good student house and want to make sure you find a quality property then here are my tips:

  • Research the letting agent online
  • Always view the property
  • View more than one property with one agent – This will give you a benchmark
  • Read the tenancy agreement before booking
  • Have a look at how they treat their current students and their reaction to COVID.
