Brighton is a great place to go to university, based on the beach with an amazing lifestyle and incredible courses and accommodation, it rivals many other universities similar to it’s size.

There are two universities in Brighton, The University of Brighton and The University of Sussex. The lifestyle s Brighton is great because of the number of students that live there. At the University of Brighton, there are roughly 16,000 students alone.

Brighton is easy to get around, has lots of activities for students to do and has a well established student accommodation market which we will get on to now!

Private Student Accommodation in Brighton

In this section, I only look at purpose built student accommodation and then I will look at student housing in the next section. This is student accommodation that is usually based around the city or town centre, is specifically designed for students and come with a lot of added extras such as:

  • Gym, Cinema & study rooms
  • Free breakfasts
  • Social events
  • Bikes to use
  • Accommodation manager
  • More CCTV
  • En-suites in flats

There are many pluses to this type of student accommodation does have one drawback in my mind that can be the rent prices. They are higher than student housing, however, you can get more for your money.

In Brighton there is a lot of student accommodation for the area you have. As a student this is a good thing because it gives you options to choose from and makes the standard better due to friendly competition.

All the student accommodation is within walking distance of the University of Brighton city-center campus. They are also close to the train station which makes getting in and out of Brighton easy.

It also we placed so that you have access to the town centre and the beach as well.

If you are based at the Huxley campus, you can get a bike to and from campus and accommodation, you can also get buses to the campus as well. This is the same if you are based at Falmer campus or the university of Sussex campus.

You can get a train to these campuses and they also have university-owned student accommodation around these campuses, especially the Falmer campuses for both universities.

  • Make sure communal areas are big enough to use

Student Housing in Brighton

There are plenty of student houses in Brighton and plenty of places to live. Because there is a lot of student housing in Brighton, it gives you the choice to decide who you want to go with, where you want to live and the quality of house that you want.

Many students in Brighton start searching for their next house in late November and December, however, if you don’t there will still be houses left in the new year!

Because the campuses and universities in Brighton are spread out, deciding on where to live should depend where you will spend most of your time.

To choose the best house, understand what you want from it and then search for that one item, for example, location, price, size or bedrooms.

Best areas to live as a student in Brighton are:

  • Varley Park – just a short bus journey from Mouslecoomb and Falmer. It’s also just a 30-minute ride on a 24 bus to the town centre.
  • Grand Parade – Close to city centre and buses available to campus
  • Elm Grove and Lewes Road – In the centre but not in the tourist spots
  • London Road – Again close to the city centre but you have access to campuses
