Student Accommodation in Cranfield

Written by Sam | February 17, 2021

Cranfield is unique place as it is a postgraduate university only and has courses in Defence, technology, manufacturing and consultancy, and in this we will look at the university and then the student accommodation in Cranfield.

Cranfield is a small university with only around 2,000 full time students and has a staff/ student ratio of 6/1. I think this is one of the lowest in the UK.

Cranfield also has it’s own airfield which not many universities have! It is nestled just outside Milton Keynes and in between Bedford. It’s small but has a lot of knowledge and resources!

Private Student Accommodation in Cranfield

In this section I normally look at student accommodation that isn’t owned or managed by the university, however, because Cranfield is so small and is unique in it’s offering there are no private student accommodation blocks.

There just isn’t the demand and most students live on campus or in student housing.

If this changes we will update this section!

Student Housing in Cranfield

As a student who doesn’t want to live on campus at Cranfield, you can go into the suburbs to find cheaper housing and live with friends.

Cranfield itself is only a village and it doesn’t have a massive amount of student housing, however, as a post-grad more people are willing to offer you houses because you are more likely to look after it than undergraduates! Even though there isn’t a lot of student landlords in the area which means less options, there is still plenty in the area for students.

The standard is pretty good because everyone is a post graduate, however, don’t expect them to be as good as the big cities!

As a student at Cranfield, the best places to live are:

  • Cranfield
  • Wootton
  • North Crawley

Living in Bedford and Milton Keynes is quite a commute and are 35 and 40 minutes by bus. If you have a car then it can be shorter. There are more housing options in Bedford because of the University of Bedfordshire campus.

Most students choose to live in Cranfield because it’s closest to the university and then travel to Milton Keynes if they want to go to a neighbouring city.

You can go slightly further out from Cranfield and go to Wootton and North Crawley however they are just further out from Cranfield itself!

You can get to the university from Cranfield village by bike on a cycle path in 10 minutes.
