Student Accommodation in Newport
This is an obscure place that you may not associate with the university. Newport is close to Harper Adams. The university has it’s own campus set outside Newport, however, some students choose to live in the town centre because it makes life a little easier.
Harper Adams is mainly known for it’s agricultural courses and the areas that are based around that. It’s not just farming as many assume, have a look at their course list.
Harper Adams according to Times Higher Education it only has around 2,000 full time students and it doesn’t really have a rank probably because it sits outside your traditional university courses.
The closest big town to Harper other than Newport is Telford and then Shrewsbury and then Stoke. There is good access to all of these areas by road, however, train and bus is more difficult due to the more remote location of the university.
If you want to read more about Harper Adams and what the university is like as a student, what life is like, good courses and some of their key statistics, this page will help: Harper Adams as a student.

Private Student Accommodation in Newport
With Newport being the closest place to Harper Adams, some of the student accommodations have built places in Newport.
In this section I like to look at what student accommodation there is that isn’t managed or owned by the university. This type of student accommodation is known as Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA).
This type of accommodation has and comes with a lot of benefits, such as:
- Accommodation manager
- CCTV
- On-site maintenance
- Bills included
- Gym, cinema, study and games rooms
- Free breakfasts and coffee
- Bikes to use or hire
- Social events
There are more that they will offer and not every accommodation will offer everything on the list, they will have to offer what they have space for. With all of this, it can come at a cost that is more than the student housing in the area.
Due to the size of the university, it doesn’t really have any of prupose built student accommodation in the area and the only type of this accommodation is based on campus which is run by the university.
This means that most of the students go from university accommodation to student houses in and around the various areas which I will go over below.
Student Housing in Newport
As there aren’t any private student accommodations currently, it means that many students go from living in university halls straight into a student house as they go from first to their second year.
The vast majority of student housing is within a six-mile radius of Harper Adams, mostly in the nearby town of Newport or the village of Edgmond.
The average rent for a student living in these areas are between £80 and £100. This is with bills included. If your bills aren’t included, it should be cheaper so you can add bills on top.
