Student Accommodation in Ormskirk

Written by Sam | March 25, 2021

Ormskirk is set north of Liverpool and east of Formby which is on the west coast. It has quite a good location because you can get to the coast if you want to be on the beach and you are surrounded by natural scenery with cities just a little further out if you want to travel.

Edge Hill is set in Ormskirk and has around 11,000 students according to the Times Higher Education and ranks well for the size of the university.

It offers a lot of courses to students, however, it is really known for it’s teacher training courses but it offers many more for students.

It has 11 faculties: biology, business, computer science, English, history and creative writing, geography, law and criminology, media, performing arts, psychology, social sciences and sport and physical activity.

If you want to read more about Edge Hill and what the university is like as a student, the campuses and it’s history then this page will help: Edge Hill as a student

Private Student Accommodation

In this section, I like to look at what student accommodation is in Ormskirk that isn’t owned or managed by the university. This type of accommodation is called Purpose Built Student Accommodation.

There are a lot of benefits to this type of student accommodation, some of them are:

  • Accommodation manager
  • CCTV
  • Free breakfasts
  • Free coffe
  • Bikes to use
  • Study, gym, cinema and games rooms
  • Social events
  • Bills included
  • Insurance included

There are more benefits than what are on the list and not all accommodations will offer everything on the list, it depends what space they have.

On the flip side, this type of accommodation is more expensive than the student housing which is in the area. As a student, this decision is up to you to decide what you want to live in.

Map of student accommodation in Ormskirk

In terms of student accommodation, there isn’t too many options for private accommodation in Ormskirk. However, the ones that are there are based in the town centre, it is close to the main roads coming in and out of the town and it is close to the train stations.

There aren’t many student accommodations probably because there isn’t too much demand there, students are likely to go from university halls and then into student housing. There might some more that go up as the university grows.

If you are searching for student accommodation and you want to make sure that you find good quality accommodation, here are some quick tips:

Student Housing in Ormskirk

If you are wanting to live in a student house in Ormskirk you have several options over the areas you might want to live in.

I would students tend to live in student housing over student accommodation that I talked about above. This is because of the current options you have and the space in Ormskirk.

Best places to live as a student in Ormskirk are:

  • Ruff Lane
  • Whiteleys Lane
  • Scarth Hill
  • Town Centre

The best places to live will be around the town centre, or off Ruff lane. They are the closest to the town and university. They are also going to be the more expensive areas because of the location.

Whiteleys Lane is an extension of Ruff lane, but living off this road will be absolutely fine, however, it is just a little further away from town that is all.

Scarth Hill is most likely place to find students, but still has some in the area. It is at the bottom end of Edge Hill and the furthest away from town. This sort of area is going to be cheaper but you might get more room size for your money.

Average rent as a student in Ormskirk is around £100 per week with bills included. This is a double bed with no en-suite. If it is a studio or in student accommodation, then it is likely to be higher.

Some good student housing providers in ORmskirk are:

There are more providers in student housing, however, these are the ones that I like the look of in Ormskirk.

If you are searching and want to make sure you that you find a good quality house, then here are some quick tips:
