Student Accommodation in Roehampton

Written by Sam | March 29, 2021

Roehampton is a place within London, it is very close to Richmond Park. When I say student accommodation in Roehampton, you can broaden your horizon and go slightly further afield because you are in London and the transport network is better than most of the country.

Set in Roehampton, is the University of Roehampton. The university has the only parkland campus in central London.

The university is best known for it’s teacher training courses on which it was founded, however, it’s course list has vastly expanded. According to the Times Higher Education the university has around 7,000 full time students.

Living in London means you have access to lots of different things from restaurants, to activities, to parks, however, the one thing is that rent can be expensive as it is the big capital city.

If you would like to read more about Roehampton as a university, some of its good parts, history, and facts, this page will help: Roehampton University

Private Student Accommodation in Roehampton

In this section, I like to look at student accommodation that isn’t owned or managed by the university. This type of accommodation is generally preferred to Purpose Built Student Accommodation.

This type of student accommodation can come with a lot of benefits and pluses, here are some that it might come with:

  • Accommodation manager
  • Bills included
  • CCTV
  • On-site maintenance
  • Free breakfasts
  • Free coffee
  • Bikes to use
  • Games, cinema, study and gym rooms
  • Social events
  • En-suites in flats

There will be many more incentives and qualities that you can get in these student accommodations, however, not all of them will offer everything on the list as it depends on what space they have and what they can essentially afford.

Some good student accommodation providers are:

What you will recgonise here is that a lot of the student accommodation is near Kingston University and in Kingston, however, these are the closest ones to Roehampton!

I think they have built the accommodation there due to space and demand personally!

All the student accommodation has good access to transport and things to do, with it being in London you are never too far away from these things!

You are also on the same side as Heathrow which is good for international students. With it being in the south west, you are also surrounded by plenty of parks for a nice little get away!

The average rent for this area should be around £200 per week depending on your room type and contract length.

If you are an international student searching for student accommodation, then I would the best time to start searching is in the January before you come to university. This allows people to re-book and you can choose your room.

It will be the same if you are going from first year and looking for second year student accommodation.

When searching for student accommodation and wanting to get the best quality, here are some quick tips:

  • Always view the property
  • View more than one room type and company
  • Check the amount of storage
  • View the social calendar
  • Check the quality of the rooms
  • Make sure the communal areas downstairs are fit for purpose
  • Make sure your communal areas are big enough for all the people in your flat/ studio or apartment
  • Read their tenancy agreement and cancellation policy

Student Housing in Roehampton

In this part I like to look at what student housing there is in the area. Within London there is plenty of student housing you can choose from, however, there is a lack of high quality.

When searching in London you need to make sure HMO providers aren’t trying to take you for a ride with small rooms and bad conditions, on the whole they are generally OK, but always do your research!

If you are searching for a house, most students start searching in late November or December. They start researching and if they come across one they like, it usually gets booked for the fear of missing out!

This does lead to a slight rush of booking student houses, however, there are plenty out there, it just depends on the quality.

The average rent around Roehampton is roughly between £120-£150 per week without bills. I would expect it to be slightly higher with bills included.

The best areas to live in when studying at Roehampton are:

  • Wandsworth
  • East Sheen
  • Roehampton

Some student housing providers in Roehampton are:

There are more out there, however these are some that I like and have some good house listed in the surrounding areas.

You can look further afield and get more option if you wish.

If you are searching for good quality student housing and you want to make sure that you find a good place, here are some quick tips:

  • Always view the property
  • View more than one property
  • View properties with multiple agents
  • Check the quality of the bedrooms and desks
  • Make sure the communal areas are big enough for everyone
  • Make sure the kitchens and bathrooms and made of quality materials
  • Read their tenancy agreement
  • Check accreditations with university and deposit protection schemes
