Nido Student Review
In this blog, what I want to do is review Nido Student Accommodation, I don’t want to review each one of their locations because they might add or take some away, however, they will all be a reflection of their brand and company that sits behind the student accommodation.
This is the start of reviewing the student accommodation company and provider and if there is something you want to know and I haven’t included, please let me know and then I can add it into this review and future ones!
The Company: Nido Student
Nido Student own and manage student accommodation and they also have student accommodation in Europe. By owning some or all of their accommodations they get a great deal of flexibility when it comes to offers, what they have in their buildings and how they build them!
They are a provider that focuses on high end and good quality student accommodation. They focus heavily on the design of the rooms and creating a really social atmosphere. They really want it to be a home away from home.
They have a lot of partners on their website and as a student, you can definitely access these if you want to, they cover pretty much everything you ever need as a student.
As a business, they focus on the location of the accommodation and the quality of what is inside with all their rooms. You can read all about them here: Nido About Us
Nido Accommodation Locations
Currently they have accommodations in:
- BIRMINGHAM
- BRISTOL
- CAMBRIDGE
- EDINBURGH
- GLASGOW
- LIVERPOOL
- LONDON
- NEWCASTLE
- SOUTHAMPTON
Like many providers, they focus on the location and then the quality of the building before they take it on in their portfolio. The reason they have got this many is because they have done a very good job of doing the basics very well and making sure students are happy.
Also to note, they have multiple buildings in locations, so where it might not look like they have a lot of properties, they have more than one in each location and up to four in Newcastle.
Accommodation Review
Within their accommodations, they focus heavily on the design and quality of the rooms. In the rooms, they focus on having good space, storage, desk, chair and if you are in an en-suite or studio, a big enough bathroom and kitchen.
In all of their properties they make sure they have big open social spaces for their students. This is a key area for them and this is in the communal area of the building, but also in your flat as well.
The design of the buildings are very modern and fresh, you don’t need to worry about ever living in an accommodation that hasn’t been changed for 20 years.
Because they focus on these areas, they don’t try to be the cheapest in the market because providing the standard of facilities does add up. They aren’t the most expensive, I have seen places more expensive, but they do sit at the higher end of the scale.
This isn’t a bad thing, it’s part of their brand, as a student you just need to be aware.
I quite like what they are aiming to do with their brand, they have a big emphasis on being green and sustainable and they also focus on student health and well being. Many will say that, but I feel Nido take steps to achieve that with their room and buildings.
To show you an example of what comes with each room, this is what you get. This is an example taken from the website and is likely to vary from building to building.

Processes and Systems
This probably the less exciting part of the review, however, it is one that should hold a big weighting in your decision.
Cancellation – If the cancellation is genuine, then the policy is really quite flexible, especially if you give enough time to re-book the room. For example, if you didn’t get the grades, a visa or had to drop out for an extenuating circumstance then they are really helpful. For a genuine cancellation it could cost you nothing, however, if you have decided not to attend or switch to another provider then you could lose your initial payment. If they can fill your room or you have someone else to move in, it could mean losing a small amount of money. However, unless it’s for a genuine reason I think that is completely fair.
Please make sure that you read this before you book! It will all be on their website.
Booking – I must admit, I haven’t used their booking system, however, they do use the same system a few other providers use and imagine it is relatively straightforward. I think with deposits, they are taken off your first month’s rent instead of having a deposit.
Communications with students – Clear is what I would use to describe their communication style. They will do a lot through their portal online and then the majority in the groups and social media.
Events – They are big on events because they want to use their social spaces and for them to be used by students.
Summary
Nido is quite a unique and clear brand, they are growing and entering into more locations where the numbers are right and the location works. They focus on a few things, some of them are:
- Social spaces and events
- Room design and layout
- Student health and wellbeing
- Moving towards a greener and more sustainable lifestyle
They aren’t priced to be the cheapest in the market nor are they the most expensive, they do offer good value for their rooms and locations. They are in 9 cities and have multiple properties in each location which gives them good coverage of each city and plenty of ways to have big socials.
They have a good brand, clean and well designed rooms and seem to be going in a good direction.
