Collegiate Student Accommodation Review

Written by Sam | July 27, 2021

In this blog, what I want to do is review Collegiate. I don’t want to review each one of their locations because they might add or take some away, however, they will all be a reflection of their brand and company that sits behind the student accommodation.

If there is something you want to know and I haven’t included it, please let me know and then I can add it into this review and future ones!

The Company: Collegiate

Collegiate has a strong brand and they aim to create accommodations that have a really strong experience. Inside their accommodations, they go for the higher end of the specification which means their pricing is a little bit more than others in the same area, however, the difference is the high specification of the building and the rooms.

They want to create spaces that have long-lasting positive memories and their accommodation managers put a lot of effort into keeping their students happy, informed and supported.

They have locations in the UK and in various other countries such as Portugal and Spain. Why is this good? Because they can learn from what they do in those locations and bring it across. It also gives them a good understanding of working with international students.

Collegiate like to focus on quality over the number of beds they offer. When the pandemic hit, they were also one of the first to make a statement and offer rent reductions to their students which was really encouraging to see.

Collegiate Accommodation Locations

Currently, they have accommodations in:

  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • Cambridge
  • Cardiff
  • Cheltenham
  • Coventry
  • Derby
  • Exeter
  • Gloucester
  • Ipswich
  • Leicester
  • London
  • Newcastle
  • Nottingham
  • Portsmouth
  • Sheffield
  • Southampton

In terms of the location in the city, they aim to get around the university and city centre, like most will do and there will be big competition in those areas. However, the locations they do have, are focused on making everything easy for their students, which is the aim of most good quality PBSA providers.

They are also likely to have more than one accommodation in some areas.

Accommodation Review

Within their accommodations, they focus heavily on the design, quality and high specification of the rooms and buildings. They have some very well designed social spaces in their accommodations.

I would say each accommodation is unique in the fact that not everything is uniform. The rooms will have a lot of similarities so that they can use the same products and create the same feel across their rooms, however, when it comes to the rest of the building it really is fair game. Just take a look at some of their pictures.

You can see some of the events they hold here: Collegiate Experience

The rooms come with so much, more than I can list so I’ll include a picture of what you can get in Birmingham, they won’t all be the same, but will be very similar, don’t forget to have a look at some of their pictures.

Processes and Systems

This is probably the less exciting part of the review, however, it is one that should hold a big weight in your decision.

Cancellation – If the cancellation is genuine, then the policy is really quite flexible, especially if you give enough time to re-book the room. For example, if you didn’t get the grades, a visa or had to drop out for an extenuating circumstance then they are really helpful. For a genuine cancellation it could cost you nothing, however, if you have decided not to attend or switch to another provider then you would be held to your signed contract. If they can fill your room or you have someone else to move in, it could mean a full take over of the contract and no money lost. However, unless it’s for a genuine reason I think that is completely fair.

Please make sure that you read the cancellation policy before you book!

Booking – This is super simple. You can book on their website and it will give you their latest price for the room and contract length. You can reserve the room in minutes. After you’ve initially processed the booking via their website, you just need to follow a few simple steps to confirm your identity, University details, choose what rent payment term you want and then sign your contract. You will also need your guarantor details if require one!

Communications with students – Very good, as I mentioned before, they were one of the first to offer students a rent reduction. They will communicate through their accommodation managers, social media groups and portals.

Events – They have a lot of events for students. They make sure they have space in order to put the events on.

Collegiate is doing a good job at offering really good quality and high specification accommodation for students. Their rooms are designed well, fitted with good quality and looking materials and they make sure their social spaces are enough to make you stop and look.

I like the way they are forward-thinking and not afraid to make statements that others providers haven’t done just yet.

Their prices are on the higher end of the scale, however, with that you should expect nicer buildings, rooms and services.
